Brief descriptions of some of the other services we offer, which have not been covered elsewhere on this site, are listed below.
Historic Buildings
Since the inception of the firm we have worked on many historic and listed buildings. We are able to carry out surveys on many types of older buildings, including timber framed and bungarouche structures.
The types of buildings we have surveyed in recent years include Regency buildings, timber framed buildings dating back to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, barn conversions and churches. We are familiar with many traditional methods of construction used in Sussex, including random brick and flint rubble construction, timber framed construction, mathematical tiles and clay, slate and lead covered roofs.
We have undertaken much repair and maintenance work on listed buildings. Projects we have dealt with include re-roofing works, substantial structural repairs and re-building, brickwork repairs, leadwork, specialist rendering including reinstatement of plaster covings and rendered ornamental renderwork, stonework, ironwork and repairs to ornamental terracotta. We believe in taking a thorough and thoughtful approach to such buildings.
Works to listed buildings often require listed building consent and we are able to advise on this and provide the relevant large scale drawings required by the planning authorities.
Defects Inspections
We can provide advice on almost any type of building defect. We regularly carry out inspections in relation to dampness and condensation in buildings and can advise on likely causes and necessary remedial works. We are able to inspect and report on the causes of structural cracking and problems of subsidence and heave. We have also often commented on faulty windows and conservatories. Other recent reports include reports on defective roofs and chimney stacks, fungal decay and even odours and smells in buildings.
Expert Witness
Stuart Radley has over 10 years' experience in preparing reports for court proceedings. We are able to provide in-depth and analytical reports on defective building work or negligence issues. Stuart Radley has also undertaken appointments as a single joint expert appointed by the courts on behalf of both parties in a dispute. He has experience of court attendance and cross examination.
Dilapidations
We have experience of handling commercial dilapidations claims on a wide range of properties for both landlords and tenants. Recent settlements achieved have been to levels in excess of £150,000.
Insurance Related Work
We can assess your property for insurance purposes and provide advice as to the amounts for which the building should be insured.
We are also able to deal with reinstatement and repair works following fire, flood and storm damage.
